Clyde E. Buckley Wildlife Sanctuary and Audubon Center
135 Germany Road, 859-873-5711 /  Three self-guided trails traverse the Center's 374 acres, inviting visitors to experience a variety of habits, including small ponds, fields and mixed mesophytic forest along the Kentucky River. A dramatic gorge exposes limestone rich in marine fossils.  Hours are Wed. - Thu. - Fri.  9am - 5pm and Sat. - Sun. 9am - 6pm.

 Cove Spring Park
127 North, 502-875-8575 / Approximately 100 acres of wetlands, streams, springs, waterfalls, forested ravines, and other natural historic features. Includes picnic facilities, walking, biking, and 3 miles of trails with interpretive signs.  Two interpretive centers with displays on natural and historic features of the park/preserve.  The park also has a Children's Memorial which is dedicated to the families of children who have passed away.  Hours are dawn - dusk (April - Oct.).

 Riverview Park
Wilkinson Blvd., 502-875-8575 / Scenic riverside picnic area by the Kentucky River, across the street from the Capital Plaza Hotel. Farmers market held May-October.  This location is also where the KY River Boat Tours start/end.  You must call 502-696-0607 to make reservations for that tour.  Canoe KY launches their Canoe/Kayak River Tours from the dock on Sat. and Sun., weather permitting.  The dock available for day use only. Park closes at dark.

Salato Wildlife Education Center and Game Farm Wildlife Center
#1 Sportsmans Lane, 502-564-7863 / Whether you have an hour or the whole day at the KDFWR Headquarters and the Salato Wildlife Education Center, you'll have fun and learn something, too. You may choose to participate in a variety of scheduled programs, activities, workshops or take a walk along their nature trails.  So pack a lunch, gather your fishing gear - don't forget the kids and camera - and come visit! Hours are: Tue. - Fri. 9am - 5pm, Sat. 10am - 5pm.  Will be closed for winter from December 14th - February 14th.  Click on the link above for more info.

Louisville Road and U.S. 60, Situated above the Kentucky River valley, the overlook gives visitors a spectacular view of the picturesque city of Frankfort and the State Capitol.  Hours are dawn to dusk.

 Switzer Covered Bridge
Route 1262 at Switzer / The Switzer Bridge once carried KY 1262 across North Elkhorn Creek at Switzer in eastern Franklin county. It is a 120 foot long Howe truss design built in 1855 and restored in 1906 and again in 1990. On March 1, 1997 the bridge was washed away in a flood and was restored in 1998. Approximately 0.1 miles east of SR 1689 (Switzer Road) on SR 1262.  The bridge is on the north side of SR 1262 over North Elkhorn Creek.  Click the link above for more info.
